Traveling Tips When You Have Locs

Traveling with locs can be a unique experience and may require some additional planning to ensure that your hair remains healthy and well-maintained. Here are some tips to consider when traveling with dreadlocks:

  1. Moisturize your hair: Moisturizing your dreadlocks is crucial when traveling, especially if you are traveling to a destination with a different climate. Changes in humidity and temperature can cause your hair to become dry and brittle. Use our refresher spray and oil to keep your locs moisturized.

  2. Protect your hair while sleeping: Sleeping on a plane or in a hotel room can be tricky when you have dreadlocks. To keep your locs from getting tangled and matted, consider sleeping with a satin or silk pillowcase, or use a head wrap to cover your hair while sleeping.

  3. Pack a hair care kit: When traveling with dreadlocks, it is essential to pack a hair care kit that includes your refresher spray, hair oil, edge brush and a satin lined bonnet. This will allow you to maintain your locs and keep them looking neat and clean.

  4. Be mindful of the water quality: If you are traveling to a location with hard water, it can be harsh on your hair and make it difficult to wash your locks. Consider using bottled water to wash your hair or invest in a water filter that can help remove impurities from the water.

  5. Consider your hairstyle: Depending on your destination, you may want to consider a different hairstyle to suit the local climate and culture. For example, if you are traveling to a hot and humid location, consider tying your locs up to keep them off your neck and to prevent excessive sweating and frizz.

  6. Be prepared for security checks: When traveling by plane, you may be subject to additional security checks that involves your hair. Be prepared to have your hair inspected, and consider wearing a lose style to make it easier for your locs to be inspected. Pro-tip, if your locs require inspection such as a pat down, they must ask permission first and secondly you should request that they change their gloves to a clean one before touching your crown. Additionally, you can ask if it's ok that you separate your locs vs them touching it.

By following these tips, you can travel with your locss with confidence, knowing that your hair is well-maintained, healthy and your personal space is not invaded!
